Music Music Draws Over 150,000 People At Independence Square

Magnificent stage It was a night to remember. It was a night reminiscent of the 1971 Soul to Soul, which saw Ghana hosting over 50 top artistes from the USA, including, Ike and Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, The Staples Sisters, and many others, besieged the Accra Sports Stadium and gave the performance of their lives.

It was again reminiscent of the visit of the former American Bill Clinton?s in 1998, when he was so overwhelmed by the 150,000 crowd that had showed up at the Independence Square to catch a glimpse of the president of the world?s most powerful country, that Mr. Clinton at one time looked poised to take a flight.

That was the Music Music picture of at the TV3 7th Anniversary Music Music Bash, which took place at the Independence Square last Saturday, when over 150,000 people from all the regions of the country, and from all walks of life showed up to participate in TV3?s biggest musical show ever.

As early as 2:00pm, scattered number of people could already be seen hanging around, watching the finishing touches of the stage and other arrangements. The programme started around 7:00pm, and the square began to fill up 30 minutes later.

The live telecast kicked off with a dance performance by Paa T and the Spiders who stunned the crowd with their mixture of local and foreign dances. The over 40 artistes who were there to perform included Buk, Obour, Slim Busterr, Batman, Josh Laryea, Christina Love, Maame K., Akosua Agyepong, Nkasei, Mad Fish and Tic Tac needed no introduction or inducement for the crowd to applaud them.

Presenters for the evening came from almost all the radio stations in Accra and Oseikrom included Okyeame Koki, Any Buxton, YAD, Jimmy, Sammy B, Big Willy, Willy Ashley, and of course regulars like Bola Ray, Stacy and Papa Sly, who most of the time had the crowd in stitches with his unique jokes.

But this is not the end of Music Music this year. Kumasi will be the next venue followed by Takoradi. And they all promise to be a blast.
