For sometime the management of Lisarf Music Production, a new recording label in the country, literally hounded me to meet the latest group on their label and just see what they have got.
After several weeks, I invited the two main group for an interview and a review of their maiden album. The first impression I had about the group was that they had nothing good to offer music lovers. The reason? The leader of the group, who is also the lead rapper, was a stammerer who could hardly mention his own name ? Kwame Peprah.
However, he managed to speak and made it clear to me that after listening to him do the highlife rap my perception of the ability of stammerers will change.
And he was right! Peprah alias Migazi who is also a computer technician, did some Accapella rap and when I finally listened to him on the 10-song album, ?Sugar Daddy?, it was clear to me that the group, Esuafour, are here to stay. The other member of the group is Osei Fukoo, 22 alias Sabato who is a fashion designer. The album features Batman and Nkasei.
The lyrics that run through some of the songs on the album advise the youth to avoid lifestyles that will ruin their future. The title song, ?Sugar Daddy? cautions young girls who have affairs with older men for the love of money.
According to them as their name Esuafour (disciples) points out, they are hiplife adherents who are out to continue the works of Reggie Rockstone and the forerunners who have made hiplife music what it is today.
Like most Ghanaian musicians, Esuafour have a couple of songs, Medo ne woaa and Abayewaa that talks about romantic love relationships. They also use two songs Esuafour and D.A.C to state their reason for coming into hiplife.
Other songs on the album are Me gyentie dada, Koofie, Decision and Pempenaa.
Celebrated sound engineers, GQ and David Kwamena Bolton (DKB) are behind the album and their touches have given the songs some very danceable beats.
Esuafour?s ?Sugar Daddy? album is the second to be signed on by Lisarf Music which is being run by Mr. and Mrs. Sarfo Abebrese. The first one was ?Sleeping Tablet? by Omama Agyei.
