Giving less than GH¢50 as offertory is a disgrace - Prophet Kumchacha

The founder and leader of Heaven's Gate Ministries, Prophet Nicholas Osei, popularly known as Kumchacha, has sided with colleague evangelist Bishop Obinim over his rejection of 5 and 10 cedi notes as offertory.

Bishop Obinim, in a viral video, instructed his congregation to offer seed or thanksgiving offerings of no less than 20 cedis during church services.

He said that smaller amounts are disrespectful to God and urged those who had given 5 or 10 cedis to retrieve their money to avoid it becoming a curse.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on May 13, 2024, Prophet Kumchacha echoed Obinim's sentiments, citing the rising costs of goods and services, including transportation to church, which often exceeds the 5 to 10 cedis typically offered during services.

"What Bishop Obinim said is true. Prices of goods and services have increased. Even the transportation to church is more than 5 to 10 cedis. Yet during the offertory, you pay 2 cedis, 5, and 10 cedis?," said Kumchacha.

Asked how much he felt was acceptable, he said, "GH¢50 and above is okay."

He acknowledged that there were individuals who genuinely did not have more to offer and said it was not a problem, but lambasted those he felt were comfortable and still gave small amounts as offerings.

According to him, such amounts were disgraceful.

"It's not by force. If you really don’t have money, that is okay. There is no problem with that.

"But you can't go to church, sit in an air-conditioned auditorium with your iPhone 15 and iPhone 17 and when it’s time for offertory, you drop 5 cedis? That is a disgrace! You should better sit at home," he said.
