Ghana Police Service launches investigation into alleged bribery incident at Ejisu

The Ghana Police Service has announced an investigation into an alleged electoral offence that occurred during the recent by-election in Ejisu, Ashanti Region.

This follows a video that surfaced online, allegedly showing an act of election malpractice at the Fumesua Pentecost Church polling station during the Ejisu Constituency by-election on April 30, 2024.

The video, which went viral on social media, shows an individual placing an envelope on the table occupied by the presiding officer and the ballot issuer of the polling station.

The video led to calls from various individuals and civil society organisations for action by the Ghana Police Service.

In an announcement made via the official Twitter account of the Ghana Police Service on May 3, 2024, the individuals being investigated have been identified as George Sasu, Regina Serwaa, and Dr Kingsley Nyarko.

The individuals have been invited by the police to provide statements and assist with the ongoing inquiry.

"The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigation into the alleged electoral offence involving some temporary officers of the Electoral Commission and a Member of Parliament during the by-election at Ejisu in the Ashanti region," the statement read.

"The individuals named in the investigation are George Sasu, Regina Serwaa, and Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, who have been invited by the police to provide statements and assist with the ongoing inquiry," the statement continued.

The police added that it is collaborating closely with the Electoral Commission to ensure a thorough investigation.
