Leicester City triggers Fatawu Issahaku's €17million buy-option clause

The transfer of Ghanaian winger, Fatawu Issahaku, from Sporting Lisbon to Leicester City is nearing completion as the English club has activated the buy-option clause in his loan agreement.

Renowned transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano reported early on Saturday, May 4, 2024, that Leicester City has formally notified Sporting Lisbon of their intent to purchase the winger.

Romano's tweet included a statement from the coach of Sporting Lisbon, Ruben Amorim, acknowledging the club's readiness to part with the Ghanaian player who has had a remarkable loan period at Leicester City.

"Leicester City have triggered the €17 million buy option clause for Abdul Fatawu, Sporting confirms.

'We will profit. Players with talent who don't fit in here will transfer to other teams and provide us with additional value; it's part of our strategy,' says Ruben Amorim."

During his time at Leicester City, Issahaku played a pivotal role in the team's promotion, contributing 6 goals and 13 assists.

For his significant contribution to Leicester City's return to the Premier League, the winger was honored as the Leicester City Young Player of the Year.

Steadfast FC, owned by the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, is anticipated to receive a financial windfall from Fatawu Issahaku's transfer to Leicester City this summer.
