Kabaka Foundation supports UG Vice Chancellor's 'One Student, One Laptop' initiative with 20 laptops

The One Student, One Laptop (1S1L) Initiative of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana has received a big boost with the intervention of the Kabaka Foundation.

The Foundation, in response to the (1S1L) initiative, has presented 20 laptops, 20 Solar Power banks and Laptop bags as its contribution to the worthy cause.

The donation is targeted towards equipping both students and staff of the nation's premier university with the necessary skills to enhance teaching and learning as part of efforts to bridge the digital divide.

Designed under the Foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, the gesture is a demonstration of its commitment towards the attainment of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) of Quality Education.
The ‘One Student, One Laptop’ initiative, which was launched by the Vice Chancellor in 2021 will support needy students in the new virtual learning environment.

Chairman of the Kabaka Foundation, Nana Owiredu Wadie II explained that the Foundation was passionate about supporting the VC’s 1S1L initiative together with scholarships for a minimum standard of five to 10 students every year.

He stressed that the UN Sustainable Development Goals highlighted the importance of education, adding that the Foundation was dedicated to supporting the brilliant but needy in society.

He lauded the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative to support students. He said: “Laptops are an essential tool for learning and acquiring skills that would ensure students’ readiness for the world of work.”

Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, thanked the donors for the kind gesture.

Receiving the laptops on behalf of the University, she disclosed that about 500 laptops have been received from donors since the launch of the initiative, bringing the total number of laptops received under the 1S1L initiative to five hundred and twenty (520 ).
