Seasoned Ghanaian sound engineer and music producer, Zapp Mallet has joined the discourse on the killing of Lance Corporal Michael Danso amid a land dispute at Millennium City, Kasoa.

He views the recent assaults on military personnel as a grave concern that demands immediate attention from the authorities to avert further loss of life.

Mallet finds it 'alarming' that civilians now dare to confront military officers, noting that such incidents were exceedingly rare in the past.

He is astonished by the recent trend of attacks on military personnel and perplexed by the lack of decisive action to address this issue.

"What is happening in this country lately is alarming waaaaaaa. Civilians having the guts to kill soldiers bcos land? The guts! Smh!" he wrote on his X page.

Background

On May 1, 2024, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed the demise of a junior officer fatally shot at Millennium City, Kasoa, in the Central Region.

A statement from E. Aggrey-Quarshie, the Director General of Public Relations, shed light on the land dispute leading to the tragic event.

The military provided insights into the contested land and recounted how the police apprehended and disarmed the assailant, Benlord Ababio, at the crime scene.

The statement described the contested property as a "half plot of land at Millennium City," owned by Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Omar Abdul Rahman, who survived the attack.

"At the Police Station, the self-proclaimed landowner, accompanied by two suspected land guards, confronted the soldiers, which led to gunfire aimed at the deceased soldier who was parking a vehicle at the Police Station.

"The police intervened, disarming and detaining the shooter upon realising L/Cpl Danso had been struck by the gunfire," the statement detailed.

The Ghana Police Service is actively pursuing those responsible for the crime to ensure they face justice.
