2 Ghana Air Force co-pilots promoted to the rank of Captains

Group Captain Baba Umaru Billey and Wing Commander Frank Ofosu Darko were given their new honors

The Ghana Air Force has promoted two of its members who were serving as co-pilots to the rank of Captain.

The notable achievement was accomplished by Group Captain Baba Umaru Billey and Wing Commander Frank Ofosu Darko, who were celebrated and awarded their new honors during the reopening of the refurbished Air Force Officers’ Mess on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

A statement on the Ghana Air Force’s website showcased images of the two Air Force Officers being honored for their outstanding service that led to their promotion.

To commemorate their achievement, Former Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Marshal Michael Samson-Oje, replaced their silver wings, worn as co-pilots, with gold wings, symbolizing their dedication and expertise in the skies as they transitioned into their new roles as Captains.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe, highlighted in his remarks that the two Officers had displayed readiness to embrace the challenges and responsibilities associated with their new positions, urging them to maintain their unwavering commitment and tireless service.

In keeping with Mess traditions, the gold wings of the two Air Force Captains were doused in alcohol to mark the transition.

One of the criteria for elevation to Captain is achieving the role of Pilot in Command (PIC) with a minimum of 1000 flying hours.

“Congratulations to Group Captain Baba Umaru Billey and Wing Commander Frank Ofosu Darko on this remarkable accomplishment, and may their wings continue to soar to new heights in service to their nation and its people,” the Ghana Air Force expressed.
