Ignore 'false claims' NPP MPs have been allocated slots in security services recruitment – Majority

The Majority in Parliament, led by Deputy Majority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, has dismissed allegations made by the Minority that 276 New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates, including 138 sitting Members of Parliament, have been allocated recruitment slots into Ghana's security services.

At a press conference held at Parliament House on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Ms. Appiagyei emphasized that the claims are "mathematically and administratively ludicrous" and a desperate attempt by the Minority to incite public disfavour against the government ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The Minority had alleged that each of the 276 NPP parliamentary candidates and sitting MPs had been given 30 recruitment slots into the security services, which would result in 8,250 recruits.

However, Ms. Appiagyei pointed out that this would be an unrealistic and unsustainable number of recruits for the security forces, which typically absorb between 1,000 and 1,200 recruits annually.

She also accused the minority of spreading misinformation and undermining the integrity of the government.

She urged the minority to refrain from spreading false information and to respect the intelligence of the Ghanaian public.

The Deputy Majority Leader reiterated that the government's recruitment strategy focuses on giving a second chance to qualified Ghanaians who previously applied but were not selected.

She emphasized that this approach is fair and thoughtful, avoiding unnecessary financial burdens on applicants.
