John Kumah joins list of public figures with giant resting places: Here are the others

Within the embrace of revered grounds lie the resting places of notable individuals who once shaped the course of history in Ghana.

These sacred sites, like towering sentinels, bear witness to the legacies left behind by figures.

These monumental final abodes not only serve as tributes to those who have passed but are also living symbols of their profound impact in the society.

The latest public figure to have a giant resting place is former Member of Parliament for Ejisu, John Kumah.

His final funeral rites and burial took place over the weekend with a high-powered government delegation in attendance.

John Kumah's final resting place:

The former deputy minister was laid to rest at the Aduapakye Royal Cemetery. A video of his final resting place quickly went viral.

The said video, which was shared by ghpage_tv, showed a well-built structure, which is supposed to be a tomb with two openings.

One of the openings, which was on the side of the tomb, led to the grave where the former minister’s casket is expected to be placed.

The other opening was a glass door, which led to the inside of the burial chamber, the tomb itself.

The tomb was well-designed and beautifully decorated with flowers and other ornaments.

The grave had a headstone that displayed the details of the former minister. There was another grave in the tomb whose ledger bore the name Juliana Kumah.

Plush mansion where ex-First Lady Theresa Kufuor was buried

The final journey of former First Lady Theresa Aba Kufuor begun on Thursday, November 16, 2023, in Accra when a Requiem Mass was held in her honour at the Christ the King Catholic Church.

A state funeral was subsequently held at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra before her body was conveyed to Kumasi for a final traditional funeral and burial on Saturday, November 18, 2023.

The traditional funeral was held at the Heroes Park in Kumasi following which a private burial was held for the former First Lady.

According to a narration by Facebook page, Dadzie Multimedia, the house where the deceased was interred was a gift to the former president and is meant to be a countryside home for him whenever he visits the region.

Other key details GhanaWeb gleaned of the edifice were as follows:

a. The house was a gift from CEO of Angel Group of Companies, Dr. Kweku Oteng

Indeed, the footage shows Dr. Oteng engaged in a conversation with a woman in the main hall of the building as artisans go about their duties.

b. It has a helipad, meaning the former president can fly straight to the home without driving to Kumasi or using the airport.

c. It is estimated to cost US$1 million. GhanaWeb is unable to confirm this estimate and is working to get verification of the cost.

d. The building is located at Daaban, a suburb of Kumasi which is hometown of the former president.

Sir John’s plush final resting place

The final funeral rites of Sir John was held in June 3, 2021, at his home town, Sakora Wonoo, in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region.

The former General Secretary of the governing NPP died on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the Korle Bu Teaching after COVID-19 complications.

Before the funeral service, a photo of the NPP bigwig's final resting place has popped up on social media.

The photo showed a painted walled and gated edifice looking like a 2-bedroom house with a huge picture of Sir John mounted on it.

Sir John, known in private life as Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, was born in 1957. He was a Ghanaian lawyer and politician.

State-of-the-art final resting place of Rev. Anthony Boakye

The funeral of Rev. Anthony Boakye, was the talk of town for many obvious reasons, besides the fact that he was a popular clergyman, his funeral had in attendance President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

But the biggest headlines was about how the funeral took place at three important venues in the capital, Accra: the Independence Square, the Accra Sports Stadium, and the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

With long queues stretching outside the venues used for the three-day ceremony, many well-wishers, sympathisers and family members of the late priest gathered to celebrate his life.

In a detailed, 13-minute long video by Continent Kofi and shared by Zionfelix on Instagram, it shows, among many other things, the state-of-the-art final resting place of Rev. Anthony Boakye.

While it is unclear the exact location of this resting place, the magnificence and beauty of the edifice that will house the final remains of the priest, has caught the attention of many.
