Waiting for a Miracle!

A cursory review of the debates on SIL shows how shallow minded most of us are. It is either Kufour this or Rawlings that. We have trivialised the enormous development challenges facing our dear country. No country has managed to overcome development challenges without citizens making direct contribution and sacrifices by working hard as civil servants; by creating wealth as business people; by being upright as politicians and policy makers.

As a people we have been reduced to thinking that anywhere else is better than our own country. We have excelled in producing skilled manpower for other countries. We leave our country in droves for the so called greener pastures. And guess what?, we expect instant change in the country we have left behind. But who is going to do it? Who is going to be the go getter entrepreneur?; the innovative civil servant? the hard working politician? Folks we are all in it together and until we realise this, our country will forever remain backward and under developed. If you are in doubt, just check the latest Human Development Index put up by the UNDP. Ghana is classified in the 129th position out of 175 countries. This is what should engage us not trivial bantering!
