A great psalm from Lucky Dube, the second Peter Tosh, to Afrikans within and without Afrika. The hymn talks about how western democrazy works/will work in black controlled economies. From the CD 'Soul Taker', 'tis especially for Kenya who just had a revolutionario at the ballot box. The Good Book said it better; "Promise is a comfort to the fool". And since democrazy is based on promises and comfortable promises, then oyiwaa...

VERSE ONE

"She got outside one morning to see what's going on

'Cause she heard all the noises in the night, it's a celebration.

Even though she was old and grey, it didn't mean she was deaf and dumb.

She took one look at the man, throws her hands in the air and said; 'God help us all'

Too much power in one man's hands

Is dangerous

She has never tasted freedom

And all the things

We take for granted

Then she looked at me and said

Son, Is this the end of our suffering?

Chorus: Is this freedom? Is this freedom?

VERSE TWO

We have just witnessed the

Change of power from one fool

And one liar to another

Our lives on the line again

She had lived through the wars

She didn' t wanna go through it all again

She has seen injustice

She has seen corruption

She has seen racism

And any other kind of suffering

You can think about

Then she said to me

Son, Is this the end of suffering?"

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THE CONSCIOUS PEOPLE ON SIL. FEEL IRIE. FORGET THE UNCLE TOMS AMONGST US. (No wonder they are running away because they can't stem the tide) THE SHOW GOES ON WITHOUT THEM. KEEP THE FIRE BURNING IN 2003.

From,

Ama
