Man charged after body found in car

A man found stuffed in the trunk of a car in the parking lot of a North York high-rise was killed at a home in Brampton, police confirmed yesterday. Police believe the victim, identified as Andrew Osei-Bekow, 24, of North York, was slain on the weekend. Peel homicide detectives arrested a man at 11 a.m. yesterday and charged him in the homicide, but investigators have not released any information regarding a possible motive.

Osei-Bekow was killed in a rooming house on Jade Cres., near North Park Dr. and Torbram Rd. in Brampton, said Detective Sergeant Mark Mendelson of Toronto's homicide squad. Police believe the victim was then loaded into the trunk of his own car, which was eventually driven to a parking lot on San Romanoway, near Jane St. and Finch Ave. W.

A security guard at an apartment complex alerted police late Wednesday afternoon that there was a foul smell coming from the trunk of a dark gray Honda Accord, which had been left there Sunday.

A day before the victim was found, Peel police got an anonymous call to check for signs of violence at the Brampton rooming house. Detectives who responded discovered a large quantity of blood and evidence that someone had been seriously injured or killed there, said Inspector Rick DeFacendis of Peel's homicide squad.

Police say Osei-Bekow had not been seen since Saturday when he attended a wedding. An autopsy is scheduled for today. Vimal Prakaham Pillay, 40, of Jade Cres. has been charged with first-degree murder. Pillay is scheduled to appear today in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
