The modalities surrounding public garbage dumps, the casual disposal of litter by pedestrians and passengers in vehicles, the nature of public toilets and urinals and several other aspects of enviromnetal sanitation leave a alot to be desired. The sight of people casually urinating in public and the stench from open cutters that are clooged by defecation and various forms of wet filth are not only, as occasionally has happened, fertile conditions for initiating epidemics, they are also disgusting and a national disgrace. Within 100 days of a PNC adminstration, a forum of stakeholders in the health sector and municipal adminstration shall be part oa an ad hoc committee that shall produce recommendations and relevant designs for a modern and healthier response to all the relevant issues of waste disposal, enviromental pollution and sanitation that would expeditiously be implemented. Meanwhile, as a follow-up to examples by our regional capitals, municipal administration at the districts shall identify suitable sites for both current and future use as landfills for dumping community garbage. As these sites get filled and properly landscaped, they shall be organized as parks for recreational purposes and tree plantations for enhancing environment.
