THE TALE OF TWO DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

There were two countries. Both had nothing. No cities, no infrastructure, no schools etc, just bush,....both were primitive and underdeveloped. Then they both got into the slave business. The first invested the capital made from slaves. The second did not. Next they both mined a lot of gold. The first invested the capital made from glod. The second did not. Next they both got into the timber business. The first invested the capital made from timber. The second did not. As as result of investing all the capital it made the first country was able to build all its infrastructure and develop science and industry. As as result of NOT INVESTING any of the capital made from either slaves, gold or timber the second country did not build its infrastructure, did not develop science and industry and is still underdeveloped to this day. Any guesses? Yup, the first country is the USA and the second is Ghana. Poor decisions lead to poor results and we are still making poor decisions today. "Good governance"? We really do not know what it is. We have a long way to go but haven't taken the first step in the right direction yet. Meanwhile time and opportunities have passed for ever. In baseball, three strikes and you are out. In development how many opportunities have to be squandered to be out of the game? Perhaps we have already squandered our share. It may already be too late.
