Say It Loud

Tom Thumb

This year my old school and Alma Mata Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (SHS) Legon clocks eighty (80) years in existence. It was established back in 1938 when no Silian was around in the quiet town of Odumasi Krobo. It was moved to its present site along the Legon Road in 1969. In its period of existence Presec has produced some of the finest minds and individuals this country has ever had serving in academia, governance, medicine, engineering, banking and finance and our security services as well.

On Sil you would find that STEM Nana, the great Kofi Ameko is a Presecan and so is petit Tom Thumb; they all trudged the pavements from the dormitories to the class room block, the labs and dining hall at some time in their lives.

Today Odade3’s as we love to call ourselves can be found taking their places and excelling in all areas all over the world. We can count as least twenty parliamentarians from both sides of the political divide in parliament today.

This weekend on Saturday September 15, 2018 will be the climax of the year- long celebration and at the school that day we would be holding a grand durbar of all Odade3 traditional rulers and chiefs and boy will they be coming from all over. Ashanti, Akwapim, Krobo, Accra and of course our land lord the La Mantse who happens to be an Odade3 as well. Guess who will be honouring and gracing the occasion? His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana (check out our advert on Page 36 of today’s Daily Graphic).

God willing I shall be leaving Bolgatanga at early dawn tomorrow morning for the long drive to Accra. My Mitsubishi Pajero was serviced a month ago at CFAO and its engine is purring like a cat that just had the cream so will eat up the kilometers like hot gari and beans on a Saturday morning. I will stop at Techiman Shell filling station for my first break then straight on to Kumasi for another one and a quick stop at KNUST to see Sis Thumb, then lunch at Linda dor Rest Stop at Bunso junction.

I shall be carrying along five boxes of smoked guinea fowls and a Kuffour gallon of Pito by special request from my mates; we shall be mounting a guinea fowl stand at the Odade3 Mentorship center. I hope to meet a lot of old friends and class mates, some not seen since leaving school and we intend organizing the mother of all gari soakings later in the evening to relive those glorious and mischievous school days.

Rt Hon Mike Ocquaye Speaker of Parliament is an Odade3 and will be there, so would Odade3 Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa also an Odade3 will be there and so would Odade3 Dr Kwasi Botchway. I shall be taking Selfies with all of them. Kofi Ameko might be there too
All roads lead the Presec Legon this Saturday and if you want to see Tom Thumb in the flesh, be there and be at the Odade3 Old Students secretariat and you might just see him in his smock at the roated guinea fowl and chilled Pito stand

Presec, probably the greatest school in Ghana and I thank Daddy Thumb of blessed memory for choosing Presec for me all those years ago.

In lumine tuo videbimus lumen – In thy light we shall see light.

PRESEC sweet, Ghana sweet pa pa pa pass.

Respond to it

Nuff Respect
