A Ghanaian consultant surgeon who introduced key-hole surgery to Essex, England, in 1990 has been awarded a Commander of the order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth of Britain. The CBE is an honour given to a person by the British monarch for an outstanding service or achievement. He is Mr Bernard Ribeiro, whose late father, Mr M. Ribeiro, served for many years in the Ghana Diplomatic Service.Mr Ribeiro, 59, who was given the honour for service to medicine, is a council member of the Royal College of Surgeons and was the president of the Surgeons Association of Great Britain and Ireland in 1999/2000.
