Ashowa Resting In Peace
Newark, NJ -- The scene at Perry's Funeral home in Newark, NJ was filled with emotions and sadness as family and friends gathered to pay their last respect to Kofi Asante-Asianowa aka "Ashowa /Isobey, a Prempeh College aluminus of Sofoline fame in the 1970s. His former schoolmates at Prempeh College led by Francis Yaw Berko Nketiah and Kwabena Manu aka Pancho were there to offer their support. Each offered a brief account of their experience with the great man during their student life and the impact his determination and willingness to travel to America to further his studies had on them. They sung "Sony's" closing assembly special "God be with you till we meet again" for Ashowa.
The diminutive and silver-tongued Ashowa popularized what came to be known as ?Komso?, which had hitherto been a secret endeavor. Everyone on campus knew what he was up to with his ?AOS? or ?America Or Suicide? slogan.
Some in later years will hail him as their ?Moses? who led them to America and others sometimes derided him in a jest as the ?Pied Piper of Sofoline? who ?ruined? their sixth form days with ?Komso?.
Ashowa graduated from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and worked in the 1980s at Time Inc. as a System Analyst. He will later settle in Ghana as an IT consultant.
