TOR workers get 30% salary increase after 10 years without a pay rise

Workers at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) have received a 30% salary increase after going 10 years without a pay rise, the refinery’s Managing Director, Edmond Kombat, has announced. He said the increase followed discussions between management and workers’ unions aimed at improving salaries and working conditions. Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, October 26, 2026, Kombat said management had also addressed more than 300 complaints and requests submitted by workers. It increased our wage bill by 10 percent but we were able to shoulder it. This year, we also increased staff salaries by 30 percent,” he said. Kombat noted that the salary adjustment was necessary because workers had not received an increase in their salaries in the past decade. “The fact that for the last 10 years, there had not been staff salary increments. We had to negotiate with the unions and make sure that staff salaries went up by 30 percent,” he added. Meanwhile, Kombat disclosed that the refinery had secured a steady supply of crude oil to sustain its operations. He said TOR had received five million barrels of crude oil, with additional supplies expected every month for the next six months. According to him, the arrangement had addressed one of the major challenges that previously affected the refinery’s operations. “There is no longer a lack of crude, as a result, the plant is working. We have a consistent supply. We have received 5 million barrels and we have barrels lined up every month for the next 6 months,” he said.
