Ghana owed legendary CK Gyamfi until his death – Dan Kwaku Yeboah discloses

Outspoken sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has disclosed that Ghana owed legendary coach Charles Kumi (CK) Gyamfi money for his services until his death.
According to him, Gyamfi’s remarkable achievements, including leading the Black Stars to several major honours, were not fully appreciated by the country’s football authorities, as some of his outstanding salaries were never paid.
Speaking on Peace FM, Kwaku Yeboah bemoaned the poor treatment meted out to national team coaches in the past, arguing that it could be contributing to Ghana’s prolonged wait for more trophies.

“The way we treat people is one way. Since CK Gyamfi’s time, do you know Ghana owed CK Gyamfi until he died? Oh yes. All our football history centres around the man. He won us the 1963 trophy and the 1965 trophy, and he was the technical director when he won the 1982 trophy, so he is at the centre of our history, yet we did not pay him for the work he did for Ghana. So you want this country to win a trophy; do you think God is left-handed? So it will definitely fail,” he said in Twi.
Gyamfi was notable for becoming one of the early African footballers to play in Germany, joining Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1960.
He won three Africa Cup of Nations titles as coach of the Black Stars, making him one of the most successful coaches in the history of the continental tournament, alongside former Egypt coach Hassan Shehata.
Gyamfi also played for Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. In 1999, he was enstooled as a chief by the people of Okorasi in Ghana’s Eastern Region.
