'You are a very bad man, you kill children' - Pete Edochie recalls curses over movie roles

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has opened up about some of the unpleasant experiences he endured from the public who believed the villainous characters he portrayed in movies reflected his real-life personality. Speaking at his legacy project launch, the celebrated actor recounted how a woman once rained curses on him after watching his role in Things Fall Apart, convinced that his actions in the film were real. “I met a lady in a taxi after I did the movie Things Fall Apart, then she started cursing me. She was raining curses on me. I was wondering how I hurt this lady,” he said. Why I accepted LilWin’s ‘A Journey to Africa’ movie role – Kanayo O. Kanayo explains Pete Edochie explained that despite trying to understand why she was so angry, the woman insisted God would punish him for what she had seen in the film. “She believed it was real, so she told me that God would punish me. She told me so many things. In fact, it was raining, she asked the taxi driver to stop, came out of the taxi, and the rain was beating her mercilessly while she stood there cursing me,” he recalled. The veteran actor also shared another unforgettable encounter involving a young girl who confronted him over another movie role. “On one occasion… a girl of about 10 years left her seat, came and stood in front of me, looked at me and said, ‘Are you a good man?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ She said, ‘You are not a good man, you are a very bad man; you kill children,’” he recounted. According to Pete Edochie, the accusation from the child left him so shaken that he immediately left the event. “Oh, my God. In fact, I left that occasion. There are many; I don’t want to talk about all of them,” he added. @tina_news_gh

LIVE NOW | I met a lady in a taxi some time ago, and she started cursing me because of the character I played in the movie Things Fall Apart. She was so convinced by my acting that she thought I was actually like the character in real life. 😂 That moment reminded me of the power of acting — when you play a role so well that people forget it’s just a character.
