Brong Ahafo, Prempeh College and Ashanti make their mark in U17 Colts Championship

Brong Ahafo held on for a 1-0 win over Eastern Region to make it two victories from two in the KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship. The result came on Matchday Two at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Monday, October 5, 2026, and followed Brong Ahafo’s 2-0 success against Upper West Region on the opening day. Their latest victory keeps them among the early contenders for the title as the group competition begins to take shape. Upper East Region also recorded their first points of the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Northern Region in one of the day’s early matches. The closest contest came between Upper West Region and Elite Academy BIG Boss. The match finished 3-3 after regulation time before Upper West Region edged the penalty shootout 3-2. Defending champions Ashanti Region recovered from their disappointing start by holding Western Region to a goalless draw and then winning the shootout 5-3. Ashanti had begun their Group B campaign with a heavy 4-1 defeat by BIG Boss, making the result against Western Region a positive response for the holders. Western Region had been involved in a high-scoring opening round before being denied victory in normal time. Elite Academy Prempeh College continued their unbeaten start with a narrow 1-0 win over Central Region. Greater Accra also claimed maximum points in the final fixture of the day, defeating Volta Region 1-0 at the GFA Technical Centre. The latest results have tightened the race in both groups, with teams competing for important points as the championship moves into its next stage. The competition is sponsored by the KGL Foundation and is part of the Ghana Football Association’s Talent Development Scheme (TDS). The scheme is designed to identify, develop and nurture emerging football talent across the country. The U17 championship allows some of Ghana’s most promising young players to demonstrate their technical ability, tactical understanding and potential while gaining experience against leading prospects from other regions and academies.Source: ghanafa.org
