Black Bombers to face Detroit Golden Gloves on October 10 at Bukom

The Black Bombers are set to face Detroit Golden Gloves from the United States at the Bukom Boxing Arena on October 10, 2026, in a bout dubbed “Fist of Fury.” The event will feature various bouts across the 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 80kg, and 95kg weight categories, with different boxers set to compete. There will also be 10 exhibition bouts on the night to allow other boxers to showcase their potential. Addressing the media at a press conference held at the Gbese Mantse Palace in Accra, the First Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) and traditional ruler, Adams Addy Nii, disclosed that the tournament will serve as preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. MPs, fans mount pressure on President Mahama to dissolve Black Stars, GFA “To inform you, the Detroit Golden Gloves team is coming for another important, impressive boxing tournament against our Black Bombers. The tournament will take place on October 10, 2026, at Bukom Boxing Arena. This is more than just a boxing competition. It is part of our preparation towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. “It will give our boxers the chance to gain international experience, improve their skills, and test themselves against good opponents. Thank you to the Detroit team, who are on their way to Ghana. We also appreciate all sponsors, coaches, officials, and everyone who supports Ghana boxing. We invite all Ghanaians and boxing fans to come to the boxing arena and support our Black Bombers,” he said. Boxer Amadu Mohammed, who won a bronze medal for Ghana in the men's 55kg bantamweight boxing competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, urged fans to expect the best from the team. “You all know that Black Bombers, we have really a lot of supporters. You see, that's what we always talk about. When we have to make this protest, this will be enough. It will be big because the US stage is coming. We have to expect something massive. But knowing our leaders have done their best for it to happen,” he told the media. The Treasurer of the GBF, Mustapha Nettey, also noted that they are preparing the boxers to win laurels at the upcoming Olympics following a disappointing performance at the Commonwealth Games. “We all know that in the past few days, we have just come back from the Commonwealth Games, and there's a lot of stuff in the media. Everybody is saying, why have we come up short of what we started in the past? In boxing, everything that happens happens for good. Everything that happens happens for us to learn. When you don't engage more, when you go into the ring, you will not have the best opportunities. “You will not have the best results that you want to have. And therefore, the Ghana Boxing Federation has put together a programme where our boxers are going to be tested. This is just one of the many series of events that we are going to have. We are going to prepare the boxers for a very enjoyable Olympic qualification next year, God willing. Ghana, if we win the bid, Ghana is going to host the rest of Africa in Ghana for the Olympic qualification,” he indicated.
