Queiroz was shocked Black Stars train and play at the same stadium – Henry Asante Twum

Carlos Queiroz was frustrated by Ghana’s lack of dedicated football infrastructure and was particularly disappointed that the Black Stars had to train and play their matches at the same venue, Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante-Twum has revealed. The Portuguese coach left his position as Black Stars head coach on October 1, 2026, after the GFA and Queiroz mutually agreed to end his brief tenure. His departure came after Ghana suffered defeats in their opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire before surrendering a two-goal lead in a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia. According to Asante-Twum, Ghana’s infrastructure challenges were among the issues that frustrated the 73-year-old coach. Black Stars Coach Saga: Meet two AFCON-winning personalities linked to position “One of the reasons why Carlos Queiroz has left his role is the lack of infrastructure in the country,” he told Kessben FM. Asante-Twum said Queiroz was particularly surprised that the national team did not have a permanent training base. “Carlos Queiroz was surprised to find out that the Black Stars do not have a camp base where the team trains. He complained that he had never seen before that a national team does not have a camp base,” he added. The GFA official said Queiroz was also concerned that the same stadium was being used for both training and competitive matches. “He was disappointed to find out that where the team plays is the same place the team trains. He believes that it affects the team and does not help in getting a proper pitch,” Asante Twum said.
