‘I cry for NDC government’ - Dr Okoe Boye

Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over what he described as a loss of focus on the country's economic challenges.
According to him, the government appears to be focusing on trivial issues instead of addressing major concerns confronting Ghanaians, including job creation.

“I cry for this government because they are getting distracted. You have to keep your eyes on the ball. To create jobs for the youth, it doesn't come just like that. You must think, organize, have a policy and monitor. No wonder we are not seeing anything,” he told GhanaWeb on October 3, 2026.
Okoe Boye also questioned claims about improvements in the exchange rate, saying businesses and consumers were still facing high costs.
“They tell you, ‘oh, the dollar has improved’. Talk to importers; the cost of imports has gone up. Talk to those in the markets. People are not purchasing so there's real hardship. This government must keep their focus,” he noted.
He also commented on the case involving Salomey Awiti Baffoe, who was arrested in connection with the Ghana Jollof TikTok account.
Okoe Boye claimed that the case would eventually be abandoned after Salomey was released from custody.
He suggested that the ongoing action was aimed at sending a message about the power of the government.
“I am making a prophecy today. If that lady comes out of the cell, nobody will follow that case again. They will not follow the case in court. They will not open their case. They will not call witnesses. It will be put in the dustbin so, all this you are seeing is to show a young girl where power lies. Because she has said something which makes them unhappy,” he stated.
He warned that politicians risk losing public support when they use their positions to demonstrate power over citizens.

“When you show citizens where power lies, you can't stay in power for long. Real power is with the man and the woman who is down. No politician has power; the NDC didn’t have power but Ghanaians gave it to them. I will advise them to be humble as politicians… Not to show them where power lies,” he added.
