'NDC in panic mode over Bamba's election as 1st Vice Chairman' - Kwesi Botchway Jnr

New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has claimed that the election of Kojo Bamba as the First Vice Chairman of the party has unsettled the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, the reaction from some NDC members following Kojo Bamba’s election indicates that the opposition party is concerned about the NPP’s new national leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, October 5, 2026, Kwesi Botchway said Kojo Bamba’s election had sent a strong political signal to the NDC.

“The election of Kojo Bamba to the national leadership of the NPP has sent a clear and unmistakable signal to the NDC. And the NDC is in panic mode,” he said.

He argued that Kojo Bamba’s background should not be used to question his suitability for a national leadership position.

Kwesi Botchway described the NPP as a national party that accommodates people from different backgrounds, insisting that academic qualifications should not be the sole measure of a person’s ability to contribute to politics.

“The NPP is a national party. The NPP is a party that belongs to every single Ghanaian, irrespective of your race, religion, academic background, colour, competence or whatever,” he stated.

He also criticised the NDC for what he described as inconsistency in its assessment of political figures, particularly in relation to NDC stalwart Sofu Azorka.

“You cannot glorify Sofu Azorka and denigrate Kojo Bamba,” he said.

According to him, Kojo Bamba is a grassroots politician who has worked his way up within the NPP and represents the interests of young people.

“Kojo Bamba is a professional auto mechanic. He has his first degree. He is a grassroots politician. Kojo Bamba just didn't start. He represents the young people,” he added.

Kwesi Botchway also dismissed criticism of Kojo Bamba’s physique and bodybuilding background, arguing that being physically fit does not make a person incompetent to hold political office.

He subsequently urged the NDC to respect the decision of NPP delegates who voted for Kojo Bamba.

“You are no wiser than the NPP delegates who decided to vote for Kojo Bamba. Let’s respect the decision of the political party,” he said.

Kojo Bamba was elected as one of three Vice Chairpersons of the NPP at the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
