I told EOCO boss to arrest Baffour Awuah – Mustapha Gbande claims

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Foyo Gbande, has said that he was the one who instructed the Chief Executive Officer of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Archer, to arrest NPP MP for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah. Speaking on JoyNews on Monday, October 5, 2026, Gbande explained that he called for Awuah’s arrest because he believed he should have honoured the invitation from EOCO regarding investigations into him. 'No dirt can stick on me' - Baffour Awuah breaks silence after EOCO detention He said instead, Awuah created a narrative that he was being targeted by EOCO because he was representing Salomey Awiti Baffoe, a senior nursing officer arrested in connection with the Ghana Jollof TikTok case. “But the recent one, the Awuah one, I met EOCO, and I told him to arrest the guy. Let the whole world come to an end; arrest him,” he said. "But what did Awuah do? He says that because he's defending Salomey, that is why EOCO has targeted him. He goes further to instigate our brothers who were around to obstruct the work of a public officer. The girl was nearly knocked down by the police,” Gbande explained. According to him, being invited by EOCO to assist with an investigation does not necessarily mean a person has been found guilty of any wrongdoing. He went on to cite former NPP appointees who have been invited by the agency to assist with investigations into their time in office, including former Minister of State Samuel Atta Akyea, and never made noise about it. “Atta Akyea was invited by EOCO; have you heard of it? NAPO is attending to an investigation at EOCO. Have you heard of it? If you are invited… to come and assist with investigations, it is not about the government or what you have done or like to have done,” he indicated. “You go there, and then you deal with the issues, and you go back. That is why we have two political parties. Even if you are afraid, there are overtures that you can make to other people so that they try to water down some tension before you appear. This is not new to the political traditions,” he added.
