Freddie Blay blasts NDC government

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Freddie Blay, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of reducing governance to ‘lip service’, arguing that little is being done in substance to address the challenges facing Ghana. Blay said the government had failed to deliver on several of the promises it made to Ghanaians, despite being nearly two years into its tenure. Speaking during the NPP’s primaries on October 3, 2026, he said the government’s honeymoon was over and Ghanaians should by now be seeing tangible results. “What was promised had not been delivered. And we don’t see signs. The NDC is only up to lip service. Nothing really is happening in substance. It’s a pity,” he stated. He also criticised the government’s handling of the economy, saying Ghana was ‘sliding’ and questioning attempts to point to changes in economic indicators as evidence of improvement. “It’s not a question of just saying stability from 14, now we are 10, 12. It makes no difference. Unemployment is at its highest,” he indicated. Blay further accused the government of failing to sustain some of the projects and initiatives left by the previous administration, while raising concerns over what he described as increasing unemployment, cocaine-related developments and the demolition of properties and businesses. “They said Ghana was a crime scene. That’s what the president said when he was elected. Maybe it is indeed a crime scene now,” he said.
