Destiny Etiko defends inclusion of Nigerians in LilWin's film

Nigerian actress Destiny Etiko has weighed in on the debate surrounding the inclusion of top Nigerian actors in LilWin’s upcoming movie, A Journey to Africa, urging Ghanaians and Nigerians to embrace one another and focus on the growth of the African film industry.

Speaking on the set of the movie, the actress dismissed claims that Ghanaians should be upset about the presence of Nigerian stars in the production, insisting that collaboration across the continent should be encouraged rather than criticised.

When asked how she feels about such claims, she responded, “I’m in the wrong position to answer that question. That question shouldn’t be for me, it should be for the producer who contacted us. If he feels they do not love us, he wouldn’t have brought us here. I feel it’s a good thing. Why should they be angry about that?”

Destiny Etiko pointed out that several Ghanaian actors are also actively working in Nigeria’s film industry, making it unfair to criticise Nigerian actors for taking up roles in Ghanaian productions.

“We have a lot of Ghanaians in Nigeria as well. I don’t want to mention names, but top Ghanaian celebrities are in Nigeria right now shooting YouTube films. So we coming here also to shoot, I don’t think it’s a big deal,” said

Calling for unity within the African entertainment industry, she stressed that actors should support one another instead of allowing national differences to create division.

“We should accept ourselves. We are Africans; we should love ourselves, and we should push the industry forward, not necessarily being angry that one person is in your country and you are not in the film,” she stated.

When reminded that many netizens are expecting a lot from A Journey to Africa and questioned whether those expectations created pressure for her, the actress brushed off the suggestion.

“Pressure? I’m not pressured. They are expecting. I don’t want to say certain things honestly, but let’s just leave it at that. I’ve answered the ones I can. Please, can I go and sit down?” she said, ending the interview.
