‘The community remains a field of influence’ - Ga North Director of Education to 9 retirees

Esther Jones Safo, the Ga North Municipal Director of Education, has emphasized the need to continually celebrate retiring education staff in the municipality citing the years of service that they have given prior to retirement. She made the call at the 2026 retirees send-off ceremony organized by the Ga North Municipal Education Directorate on September 30 at the New Achimota Presbyterian School compound located at Mile 7. Jones Safo charged nine retirees who were celebrated at a colourful event to turn their attention to the community now that their time in the classroom has ended. “Let us never underestimate the influence of teachers and education officers. You made a positive influence in the lives of others.” She also reminded the retirees that: “retirement changes your roles but doesn’t erase your value. The community remains a field of influence.” Each retiree was awarded a citation of honour celebrating their years of dedication and service plus an undisclosed amount of money. All nine retirees had served in the Ghana Education Service for over three decades prior to retirement. In an interview with the press, she emphasized that the citation and financial token that the nine retirees received was only an appreciation for their hard work but that they deserved much more than what they received. She added that if the Directorate had the means, it would be ideal to give them a much bigger and befitting send-off. She, however, called on them to transition to being mentors to young ones and advocates of education in their respective communities while admonishing teachers still in service to aspire to the heights that the retirees reached in their respective careers. The retirees whose last posting was in Ga North were celebrated in the company of their colleagues, family and friends and key education stakeholders in the municipality. The event was under the theme: “New chapter of service: from the staffroom to the community.” The retirees included: Madam Veronica Hlormatsi, Madam Lordina Offei, Aminatu Basugu, Madam Margaret Ayew, Edmund Owusu Agyapong, Mrs. Felicia Adwoa Sarpong, Madam Felicia Mantey, Madam Christiana Nyedu and Madam Esther Danso.Source: Alfa Shaban, Contributor
