Owusu-Bempah begs NPP MP for forgiveness after lawsuit

Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has apologised to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, after dragging him to court. The apology was conveyed on behalf of Rev Owusu-Bempah by his junior pastor, Rev Charles Owusu, who indicated that the senior pastor had agreed to seek forgiveness from the legislator. Speaking to members of the church on Sunday, October 4, 2026, Rev Charles Owusu appealed to Dr Ayew Afriye to forgive and forget the matter and urged both sides to make peace. According to him, the church now believes that Dr Ayew Afriye was innocent of allegations that he was part of a plot to cause chaos within the church. Rev Charles Owusu said some individuals who had allegedly planned to cause trouble had rescinded their intentions and that Dr Ayew Afriye’s name had been wrongly mentioned in connection with the alleged plot. He therefore appealed to the NPP MP to withdraw the court action against Rev Owusu Bempah. “I stand on behalf of the church and the leadership and what I am saying is that my senior pastor has agreed. What we are saying is that those people who planned to do evil have rescinded their evil plans. Now we know that he is innocent in the case, and people just used his name in the whole plot. “What you said about our senior pastor, we forgive. So, you also, please, let us withdraw the court issue because your name, which was mentioned as part of the plotters to cause chaos in the church, is not true. So, let us make peace,” he said. Dr Nana Ayew Afriye has sued Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah over a claim made by the pastor. Rev Owusu Bempah had alleged that some leading figures of the NPP, including Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, are behind a supposed plot by the Nasara group of the party to attack him and his church members. “You can write for me. Those organising that thing (the attack); Anthony Abayifa Karbo, and Sammy Awuku is also among them. One of them is called Opare Ansah, and the other one, Ayew Afriyie. These are the people planning evil,” the pastor said. In the writ of summons filed by his lawyers, Dr Ayew Afriye said that the allegations made by the prophet are “defamatory” and intended to lower his “integrity, reputation, image and standing”. He therefore asked the court to rule that the remarks made by Rev Owusu Bempah were defamatory and had dented his reputation. He also asked the court for damages of GH¢10 million and an order for the pastor to retract his comments.
