Hollywood actor Boris Kodjoe enstooled chief in Prampram

Hollywood actor Boris Kodjoe has deepened his connection with his Ghanaian ancestry after being enstooled as an honorary chief in Prampram, the Greater Accra town where his grandfather, Joseph Cecil Ofuatey-Kodjoe, was born.
The actor, who was born in Austria and has Ghanaian and German heritage, was honoured during a visit to Prampram while working on a documentary.
The Hollywood actor received the honour from Paramount Chief of Prampram, Nene Tetteh Wakah. Boris was also hosted by Chief Nene Annorbitettey Mansro and spent time with members of his extended family in the community.
Reflecting on the visit in a social media post on
October 3, 2026, Boris described the experience as one that carried profound personal significance.
“Yesterday meant more than I can express in a few words,” he wrote.
He recounted how the documentary had taken him to the town where his grandfather was born, allowing him to meet relatives and formally receive the traditional honour.
“While filming our documentary I visited Prampram, the birthplace of my grandfather, Joseph Cecil Ofuatey-Kodjoe. Hosted and accompanied by Chief Nene Annorbitettey Mansro, I was welcomed by my local extended family and presented with an honorary Chieftaincy by the Paramount Chief of Prampram, Nene Tetteh Wakah, a moment I will never forget,” he stated.
Boris expressed appreciation to his nephew, Curtis Nana Kofi Egyir, as well as Anguah Anorkor Abbey, for their role in organising and facilitating the visit.
For the actor, the occasion served as a reminder of the lasting link between family history, heritage and personal identity.
“The power of ancestry reaches beyond generations and across oceans,” he added.
Boris Kodjoe has built a successful international career through appearances in productions such as Soul Food, Brown Sugar, Resident Evil and Station 19.
He has also maintained a strong public connection to Ghana and has spoken on several occasions about his family heritage.
