Ghanaian musician and businessman D-Black has shared his thoughts on the recent demolition exercise at the La Pleasure Beach Resort in Accra, describing the development as unfortunate.
Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Joseph Henry Mensah on the sidelines of Jacinta’s Ghagerian comedy show on October 3, 2026, D-Black expressed concern about the impact of the demolition on beach club operators, business owners and workers who depend on the businesses for their livelihoods.
According to the “Vera” hitmaker, the demolition of beach clubs is not an isolated incident, as similar exercises have previously affected other establishments, including Flamingo, Ula Beach, Polo Beach and Vienna City Beach Club.
He said he hoped measures would be put in place to compensate the affected business owners and workers, noting that many of them rely on the businesses to support themselves and their families.
“It’s unfortunate that this is happening. It’s not the first time this is happening. We saw, I think, Flamingo, Ula Beach, Polo Beach, Vienna City Beach Club. The story is still not clear in my eyes as to why this is going on. But this is the livelihood; that’s how people make money to take care of themselves and feed their families. So, I really hope that things are in place to compensate them and make sure they are good, especially the workers and also the business owners,” he stated.

The comments come after a joint team of military and police personnel commenced the demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach in Accra, an exercise that triggered resistance from the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.
The demolition has generated public discussion over the status of the beach facilities and the circumstances surrounding their removal.
The management of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has since explained the circumstances that led to the demolition exercise.
SSNIT said it sought the urgent intervention of the National Security Council Secretariat to address what it described as the persistent unlawful occupation, encroachment and unauthorised activities on the beachfront adjoining and directly in front of the Labadi Beach Hotel and La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.
According to SSNIT, the two hotel properties form part of its investment portfolio and constitute significant national hospitality and tourism assets.
The Trust explained that, as part of its mandate, it has a fiduciary responsibility to safeguard these investments, preserve their value and ensure that they continue to generate sustainable returns for contributors and pensioners under the Basic National Social Security Scheme.
SSNIT’s explanation comes amid concerns over the effect of the demolition on businesses operating along the beachfront, with D-Black calling for measures to protect and compensate those whose livelihoods have been affected.
