Ghana and Kyrgyzstan plan new trade corridor – Foreign Affairs Minister

Ghana and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to develop a new trade corridor linking West Africa and Central Asia, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced.
In a Facebook post on October 3, 2026, following an official visit by Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister, Jeenbek Kulubayev, Ablakwa said the two countries had signed agreements to strengthen cooperation in several sectors.
These include the gold value chain, agribusiness, agricultural mechanisation, scholarships and infrastructure.
“We are forging strategic partnerships in the gold value chain, agribusiness, agric mechanization, scholarships and infrastructure cooperation. We signed a number of agreements in these sectors,” he stated.

He said the partnerships would deepen relations between the two countries and create new opportunities for trade and development.
The two countries also agreed to work together on shared priorities within international organisations.
According to Ablakwa, this cooperation will become particularly important from January 2027, when Ghana is expected to assume the African Union chairmanship while Kyrgyzstan takes a seat on the United Nations Security Council.
