'I don't think women should get married before 30' - Ciana Chapman advises

Ciana Chapman, the ex-wife of Nigerian comedian Sabinus, has advised young women against getting married before the age of 30, arguing that many women who marry in their early 20s often do so for the wrong reasons. In a video shared on social media, Chapman said women below the ages of 27 or 28 are still developing emotionally and mentally, making it difficult for them to make informed decisions about marriage. “I don’t think women should get married before the age of thirty. If you are too young, you are twenty-seven, twenty-eight, anything younger than that you are most likely gonna regret,” she said. Drawing from her personal experience, Chapman disclosed that she met her husband at 18 and got married at 21, but later realised she had changed significantly as she matured. Watch as Olu Jacobs’ sons tearfully pay tribute to late father According to her, she eventually had to tell her husband that she was no longer the timid young woman he married, adding that while she was fortunate to have pursued her dreams, things could have turned out differently had she been married to a controlling partner. “Should I have gotten married that young? No. There’s nothing that I was looking for in marriage. God just saved me because with the way I navigated into marriage so young, a wicked man would have killed my dreams. A wicked man would not have allowed me to flourish,” she stated. She argued that many young women rush into marriage to escape difficult homes, fulfil societal expectations, or because of the excitement surrounding weddings, rather than because they are genuinely ready for lifelong commitment. Chapman also claimed that some older men deliberately pursue much younger women because they are easier to influence, insisting that such relationships often become strained as the women grow older, gain confidence and begin asserting themselves. Encouraging women to prioritise personal growth and financial independence before marriage, she said a woman who is established and able to provide for herself is more likely to command respect in a relationship. “Please, women, think, think, think before you run and allow somebody to tie you down at a very young age. Don’t do it,” she urged.
