President Mahama, Kyrgyzstan Foreign Affairs Minister discuss bilateral ties

President John Dramani Mahama has hosted the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubayev, for discussions on Ghana-Kyrgyzstan relations and cooperation at the multilateral level. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, disclosed this in a Facebook post on Friday, October 2, 2026, following the meeting. According to Ablakwa, the discussions focused on strategic cooperation between the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN), particularly as President Mahama prepares to chair the AU in January 2027. Kyrgyzstan, he noted, is also expected to serve on the UN Security Council after being elected as a non-permanent member. The meeting also reviewed Ghana’s bilateral relations with Kyrgyzstan, including the recently signed Visa Waiver Agreement, cooperation in the mining sector and efforts to increase investments between the two countries. Ablakwa said Mahama expressed appreciation to Kyrgyzstan for its support for the Ghana-led UN resolution declaring the trafficking of enslaved Africans as the gravest crime against humanity.
