'Come and save Ghana football' - Countryman Songo tells Dede Ayew

Ghanaian sports journalist Patrick Osei-Agyeman, also known as Countryman Songo, has called on former Black Stars captain André Ayew to step up and help lead efforts to revive Ghana football.

According to him, Ayew’s experience as a former captain of the Black Stars and leader of Ghana’s FIFA U-20 World Cup-winning team makes him well positioned to contribute to the development of the sport.

He believes Dede Ayew should consider putting his playing ambitions aside and focus on helping transform Ghana football, including potentially heading the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“Captain André Ayew, this is the moment to step up, take a stand and help lead the fight for a better future for Ghana football. MOPAO, Ghanaians need you now. You are a legend of the game.

“I know for a fact that some teams want to sign you, and I also know you wish to continue playing football, but put that aside and come and save Ghana football. Ghanaians are calling on you to come and save Ghana football by heading the Ghana Football Association,” he said.

He further highlighted Ayew’s leadership experience, stating that his time as a captain of the Black Stars and the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup-winning team gives him valuable knowledge of the game.

“You won the U-20 World Cup for Ghana as a captain and played for the Black Stars as a captain. The experience you have in the dressing room and on the field of play, you can help bring back Ghana football,” he added.

He also stated that football stakeholders would be willing to support Dede Ayew if he decides to take up a leadership role in Ghana football.

“Football people, they are all ready to support you. Football people in Ghana are ready to support you. The local football, the national teams, you can do it,” he stated.
