Go and sit at the feet of Kufuor - Jantuah advises incoming NPP executives

A leading member of the CPP, Kwame Jantuah, has urged the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) incoming national executives to seek advice from former President John Agyekum Kufuor as they work to rebuild the party and regain the confidence of Ghanaian voters. Jantuah said the NPP needed experienced leadership, unity and a clear strategy to convince the electorate to give it another opportunity to govern. Speaking on TV3’s New Day ahead of the NPP’s national executive elections, he described Kufuor as a mature figure whose experience could guide the party’s new leadership. “For nothing at all, the NPP has one mature, extremely mature person they can learn from. Once they put everybody in power, they should go and sit at the feet of President Kufuor and let him advise them on the way forward,” he said. Jantuah also cautioned NPP members against dismissing criticism of the party’s previous administration as propaganda. He argued that voters were paying attention to the performance of the current government and would judge the NPP based on its own record and the confidence it could rebuild. “The NDC today seems to be doing the right things that sometimes you sit back and ask, when this thing happened within the NPP regime, they could have done that. But they didn’t do it,” he said. He added that the NPP could not take its return to power for granted, regardless of who emerged as its new national executives. “Nobody knows whether they’ll win the next election or not. Nobody knows,” he said. Jantuah maintained that the party’s ability to regain public confidence would depend on whether Ghanaians were willing to forgive its previous performance in government. “Build the confidence in the people, and if the people feel that they’ve forgiven you for the way you ruled the last time, they might vote you back into power,” he said. The NPP is scheduled to elect its national officers on October 3, 2026, as part of its reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general election. Source: mynewsgh.com
