SSNIT raises ownership stake in Societe Generale Ghana to 24.36%

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has increased its ownership in Societe Generale Ghana from 19.36% to 24.36%.
The Trust acquired an additional 5% stake as part of the deal involving the sale of Societe Generale Group’s 60.22% controlling stake in the Ghanaian bank.
The transaction has been completed by Morocco’s Attijariwafa Bank and SSNIT.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 1, 2026, SSNIT said the increase in its stake would help it protect and grow the pension funds of Ghanaian workers while supporting the long-term growth and stability of the bank.
The Trust also said the deal would increase Ghanaian ownership in the banking sector.

It said this would help ensure that Ghanaian workers, pensioners and local institutions benefit more directly from the growth of the country’s financial sector.
SSNIT credited the government, particularly the Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, for helping to secure the additional stake and complete the transaction.
“Trust appreciates the support of the Government of Ghana, particularly the Minister responsible for Finance, who was instrumental in securing the additional stake and completing the transaction,” it stated.
