EOCO reacts to GH¢50 million Baffour Awuah bail reports

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has dismissed media reports that the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has been granted bail. Reacting to a news card claiming that the MP had been granted GH¢50 million bail with three sureties on Friday, October 2, 2026, EOCO described the report as “fake” and called on the public to “disregard the information”. Why EOCO’s attempted arrest of Baffour Awuah was wrong - Lawyer explains EOCO’s statement corroborates the position of Baffour Awuah’s lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, who had also denied the reports that his client had been granted bail. Speaking on Adom FM on Friday, October 2, 2026, Atta Akyea said Baffour Awuah remains in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). “It is not true that he has been granted bail,” he said. According to him, he had received information that EOCO plans to keep his client in custody and later present him before the court that issued the arrest warrant for the court to determine his bail. “What I’m even hearing is that they want to further detain him and take him to the court that granted the arrest warrant for it to grant him bail instead,” he disclosed. Atta Akyea expressed frustration over the situation, arguing that his client is not wanted by the court and therefore does not need to be taken before a court to be granted bail. He said it was EOCO that had invited Baffour Awuah to assist with an ongoing investigation and, therefore, the agency should be responsible for granting him bail. The Manhyia South MP had voluntarily reported to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at about 10 am to assist with investigations into alleged economic and organised crimes. Claims that Baffour Awuah has been granted GH¢50m bail untrue - Samuel Atta Akyea The investigation involves allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences, among other matters.
