‘Don’t let our industry die in Ghana’ – Actor Pete Edochie appeals to Mahama

Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has made a passionate appeal to the government to support efforts to revive Ghana’s struggling film industry. Speaking in a video shared by TINA NEWS, the veteran actor said he believes President Mahama is progressive enough to back the industry if filmmakers present a clear proposal and seek financial support. “His Excellency sir, don’t let our industry die in Ghana. He will respond. He has heard me,” Pete Edochie pleaded. We’re making African films, not just Nollywood - Zubby Michael on role in LilWin’s movie According to the celebrated actor, the government could support filmmakers with funding to produce movies under an arrangement that allows the money to be repaid after production. “I believe that if you make a direct appeal to him, ‘Support us, sir, challenge us with this amount of money, let’s go and shoot films, give us so and so time, we shall return the money,’ I believe that he would like to do that. He’s a very progressive person,” he said. Pete Edochie also praised President Mahama for his outreach to the African diaspora, saying the initiative has demonstrated his willingness to embrace and support people of African descent. “The way he opened his arms to our brothers in America and all of the diaspora, ‘Come over here and settle down.’ People who have been victimised all these years, Ghana is here for you. I think he’s the first African president to do that,” he stated. The veteran actor added that his admiration for President Mahama gives him confidence that the Ghanaian leader would respond positively to a similar appeal from stakeholders in the country’s film industry. @tina_news_gh
