Mussa Dankwah reveals what 45% of NPP delegates want in next chairman

Party unity has emerged as the most important consideration for NPP delegates ahead of the party’s national executive elections, according to pollster and Global InfoAnalytics Executive Director Mussa Dankwah.
Dankwah said 45 percent of the delegates surveyed identified the ability of a candidate to unite the party as the main quality they would consider when voting in the chairmanship race.
He said the figure was significantly higher than the other factors presented to the delegates, with 19 percent choosing grassroots connection, while personality and the ability to instil discipline each recorded 18 percent.
“Overall, we realise that it is the unity that really is driving the delegates tomorrow when they go to vote,” Dankwah said on Joy News.
“Not so much about indiscipline, and the indiscipline to get things in place, or not so much about personality or grassroots, because about 45 percent of the delegates believe that unity is key,” he added.
According to him, the survey was designed to test whether the issues being discussed around the chairmanship contest actually reflected the thinking of delegates.
The delegates were asked to assess the candidates on several qualities, including their ability to unite the party, connect with the grassroots, instil discipline and demonstrate a strong personality.
Dankwah said the responses showed a clear preference for unity as the central issue.
“Overall, they are looking for somebody who can unite them going forward,” he said.
The findings come ahead of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, where delegates are scheduled to elect new national executives on October 3.
