NPP Chairmanship Race: What the latest polls reveal

Ghanaian pollster, Mussa Dankwa, has said four waves of research into the NPP chairmanship race have produced a consistent pattern around former General Secretary John Boadu. The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics said researchers deliberately asked delegates several questions beyond their stated voting preference to establish whether their responses produced a consistent picture. The research was conducted ahead of the NPP’s October 3 national executive elections, where Boadu is contesting the chairmanship against Paul Afoko, Boakye Agyarko and Sammy Crabbe. Dankwa said delegates were asked to assess the candidates on qualities such as unity, grassroots connection, discipline and personality. Researchers then asked delegates which candidate they believed could best unite the party. “We wanted to see whether the narrative that is out there really delegates believe and are throwing to those narratives,” he said on Joy News. Dankwa said the additional questions were necessary because relying only on direct voting-intention questions could produce an incomplete picture. “Here, we are trying to establish consistency with the data. If something doesn’t add up, it will be exposed elsewhere in the responses they give,” he said. He said the responses across the four waves continued to point towards Boadu. “How with all these questions, you named it the trend across the four wave, and it seems to put John Boadu over there,” Dankwa said. The pollster said the finding was particularly notable to him because Mr Boadu had previously failed in his bid to become NPP General Secretary. “I myself was conflicted in my mind because I said, but it was the same MPP that didn’t want him as general secretary,” he said. The research therefore sought to measure not only who delegates preferred but also the qualities they associated with the different candidates.Source: mynewsgh.com
