GFA discloses reasons behind Carlos Queiroz resignation

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has disclosed that Carlos Queiroz decided to leave his role as head coach of the Black Stars.
According to him, the GFA leadership had extensive discussions with the coach about the way forward, but Queiroz ultimately decided to quit for personal, sporting, and technical reasons.
He disclosed that one of the main concerns raised by the coach was the inadequate sporting infrastructure, particularly the lack of training pitches, which affects the quality of the facilities and, consequently, the team’s performances.
Carlos Queiroz leaves Black Stars
“After the game, there were talks. He raised concerns that were personal, sporting, and technical. We tried to convince him, but in the end, he decided to leave. One of the reasons, is that he doesn’t understand why the pitches used for matches are the same as those used for training.
“He has not seen it before, and he thinks the more we put pressure on the grass, the more it affects the quality of the pitch and even the performance of the team. I believe that it is one of the things bedeviling the nation. As we speak, only Accra Sports Stadium is the approved stadium, so it's problematic,” he said in Twi in an interview with Kessben FM.
Asante Twum further indicated that the GFA had plans to prioritise infrastructure by investing in additional training pitches but Carlos Queiroz ultimately decided to depart, with the team’s poor results in the AFCON qualifiers also contributing to his decision.
“We intended to look at other options, investing in other training pitches. But in the end, the two bad results are being used to judge the FA and the system. And he feels the result is not the best; he decided to move on…” he added.
This comes after the Black Stars’ defeats in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, triggering calls for the GFA and the Black Stars to be dissolved.
