‘A lot of people don’t like me because of what they’ve heard’ - Kelvin Boy

Ghanaian musician Kelvin Boy has opened up about being widely misunderstood, stating that many people have formed negative opinions about him based on hearsay rather than personal experience. Speaking in an interview with Anita Akua Akuffo on TV3, the singer admitted that he constantly deals with misconceptions, with some people believing he is unfriendly despite not knowing him personally. “There are a lot of people that don’t like me because they heard something or because of another man. You don’t know me. You don’t know where I’m from,” he said. I couldn’t walk — Adekunle Gold recounts sickle cell crisis on flight to Tanzania Kelvin Boy explained that the perception has made it difficult for him to defend himself whenever controversies arise because his explanations are often misinterpreted. “Anytime I try to explain myself about something, they get it wrong. That was one of the reasons why I laid back. I was like, okay, let me just focus on the music,” he stated. The ‘Down Flat’ hitmaker said he deliberately reduced his media appearances, choosing to speak publicly only when necessary, such as during album promotions. According to him, although he is naturally reserved and finds it difficult to address issues on camera, he still feels the need to express himself from time to time because he is “a human being too.” “People pick up cameras and talk, but it’s hard for me to pick up a camera and say something. The only time I’ll talk is maybe when I come here and you ask me,” he said. Despite the criticism, Kelvin Boy said he has learned to live with public perception, noting that while the negativity can be overwhelming and sometimes overshadows his music, he remains focused on his career. “As long as I’m making money and it’s working for me… but sometimes it’s too much. The negative sometimes takes away the attention from the songs and all of that. But we’re ready for everything,” he added.
