‘Shame on you!’ - Prince David Osei fires police over senior nursing officer arrest

Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has taken aim at the Ghana Police Service over what he describes as selective enforcement of the law following the arrest and remand of senior nursing officer Salomey Awity Baffoe. The actor expressed his displeasure in an Instagram post on September 17, 2026, after the Adenta Circuit Court 1 remanded Salomey Baffoe in custody for two weeks over alleged links to the anonymous TikTok account, “Ghana Jollof”. Sharing a flyer calling for an end to what it described as “Rambo-style arrest” and demanding Baffoe’s release, Prince David Osei questioned the approach adopted by the police and other security agencies in dealing with alleged offensive speech and social media activity. “Dear @ghpoliceservice, shame on you all! So now you suddenly know about someone allegedly inciting violence? Where were you when a certain individual openly insulted, denigrated and disrespected chiefs, prominent personalities, former presidents, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his family, and even Otumfuo, among others?” he wrote. According to the actor, authorities had previously been aware of individuals who allegedly made offensive remarks against public figures but failed to take similar action against them. Prince David Osei apologises after 'insulting' Mahama “Instead of bringing the person you knew to account, you appeared to protect him, with police officers acting as bodyguards whenever he was in Ghana,” he alleged. He then questioned why authorities were now arresting people suspected of being connected to an anonymous social media personality while simultaneously pursuing the person behind the account. “Yet today, you are arresting people you claim are connected to a faceless individual while aggressively pursuing another whose identity is still unknown,” Prince David Osei stated. Prince David Osei argued that law enforcement agencies must apply the law consistently, regardless of the political status or identity of the individuals involved. “No one advocates insults, nor does anyone take pleasure in making offensive or disparaging remarks about others. However, many believe that the current government benefited from a political culture in which individuals were encouraged to insult and disrespect high-profile politicians and public figures,” he stated. He questioned why the police had become more active in issuing public notices and making arrests over alleged online offences, while individuals whose identities and alleged conduct were already known had, in his view, not faced similar treatment. “Today, you seem eager to issue public notices and make arrests. If justice is truly your objective, then start by dealing with those whose identities and actions were already known before pursuing anonymous persons,” he stated. The actor invoked the principle that the law should be applied consistently, adding: “What is good for the goose is good for the gander.” He further called on the Ghana Police Service to maintain professionalism and impartiality in its operations. “The Ghana Police Service must uphold the principles and values upon which it was established, rather than being perceived as selective in its actions,” he said. Prince David Osei also framed his concerns around the constitutional right to freedom of expression, while acknowledging that the right has legal limitations. “Citizens should be able to exercise their constitutional rights, including freedom of expression, within the limits of the law,” he wrote. The actor’s comments come amid growing public attention surrounding the arrest of Baffoe, a 40-year-old senior nursing officer and mother of three from Hansua in the Techiman Municipality of the Bono East Region. Reports indicate that she was arrested during a late-night operation at her home on Sunday, September 13, 2026, in connection with investigations into the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account.
