For many in Accra’s bustling informal economy, roadside trading is more than survival. It is a thriving business.
From selling of sachet water, coconut to cooked food, these businesses are lucrative and attracts many customers.
A coconut seller has revealed that his daily profits can reach as high as GH¢900 on a good day, with even slow trading days bringing in hundreds of cedis.
He explained that his earnings depend largely on the bulk price of coconuts and the quantity he is able to purchase.

In a video sighted on X by GhanaWeb Business, he noted that wholesale prices can sometimes be as low as GH¢100 to GH¢300, allowing him to make strong margins when selling individually.
“Depending on the price we get it at wholesale and the amount you get,” he said.
On particularly good market days, profits can climb to GH¢900, while slower days still yield between GH¢350 and GH¢450.
“Bad market day, you will get at least GH¢450 or GH¢350 in profit,” he revealed.
For him, the key lies in securing stock at favourable wholesale prices and selling enough during the day to maintain healthy margins.

His experience shows that behind the modest roadside coconut trade is a business that can generate significant daily returns, depending on market conditions.
His daily earnings suggest that the coconut trade could generate between GH¢2,100 and GH¢5,400 in profit in a six-day week, showing the potential income available in Accra’s informal sector.
