2026 World Cup showed Ghana is moving in the right direction - Kurt Okraku

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, believes the Black Stars’ performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is evidence that the team is moving in the right direction. Ghana reached the second round of the tournament after finishing third in a group of England, Croatia and Panama, before their campaign ended with a defeat to Colombia. Although the Black Stars fell short of their ambition of advancing further, Kurt Okraku says the team’s overall showing in the United States, Canada and Mexico offered reasons for optimism. “The Black Stars demonstrated resilience and promise at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Advancing to the second round after a commendable performance against some of the world's strongest teams before going out against Colombia,” he said. Dinamo Zagreb sign Ghanaian youngster Fuzy Taylor from Medeama Ghana entered the tournament as the lowest-ranked team among the 48 participating nations but managed to progress beyond the group stage. Okraku believes that improvement in Ghana’s ranking by the end of the competition further underlines the progress made by the team. “Although we had hopes of progressing further, the tournament provided encouraging signs that the team is moving in the right direction. From being the least-ranked team before the start of the tournament to the 24th-ranked team at the end speaks volumes of the promise in this team,” he added.
