Nigerian singer BNXN has shared his thoughts on what sets some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars apart, arguing that their distinct personalities have played a significant role in their enduring success.
Speaking in an interview on 3FM, the Finesse hitmaker said artistes do not necessarily have to be controversial but must develop a unique identity that fans can easily recognise beyond their music.
Using Burna Boy as an example, BNXN said the Grammy-winning musician has built a reputation for fearlessly responding to criticism, whether it came from social media or traditional media.

“You don’t need to be controversial all the time, but you need a personality that people can be like, ‘that’s that guy.’ If you came at Burna Boy on the internet, he’s going to reply to you and tell you his mind. Even if you said something about him on the radio, if he heard it, he’d come online and respond. It’s not that he’s crazy; it’s just his personality,” he explained.
He added that Burna Boy’s confidence is complemented by his undeniable musical ability, describing him as someone many regard as “1000 percent the best.”
BNXN also pointed to Wizkid’s reserved nature, stating that the singer’s silence has become part of his brand.
“Then there’s Wizkid. He thrives in his silence. That’s a personality. You’re never going to get anything out of him. You won’t get a response,” he said.
Also, touching on Davido, BNXN praised the singer for showcasing his affluence while ensuring those around him benefit from his success.
“He literally shows you his affluence, and he carries everybody along. Not a single person is left behind in his team,” BNXN noted.
According to the singer, these distinctive personalities have contributed to the longevity of Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido’s careers, making them memorable even during periods when they are not releasing music.
