Ghanaian comedian and actor Clemento Suarez has argued that the rivalry between some of the country’s biggest musicians is largely created by themselves because it helps generate attention for their careers.
Speaking during a discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz on August 23, 2026, Clemento Suarez disclosed that the perceived rivalry between artistes such as Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy may not necessarily be harmful to the musicians involved.
According to him, the constant back-and-forth between the artistes keeps them in the public eye and ultimately benefits their brands.
“The rivalry in the industry is created by the artistes themselves. The likes of Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and others; the rivalry helps them,” he said.
However, Clemento Suarez noted that the situation can be unhealthy for media practitioners, fans and other industry stakeholders because they are often compelled to discuss the artistes whenever they have disagreements.

“It’s not healthy for us because we would have to be discussing them when they’re having issues, but as for them, it would help them,” he explained.
He cited the artistes’ respective concerts as an example of how the rivalry can generate public interest.
Clemento Suarez recalled that when the two artistes organised their shows last year, Shatta Wale’s concert was free, while Stonebwoy’s was not.
He said Stonebwoy subsequently used the difference in ticketing arrangements to tease his rival, yet his own concert still attracted a significant crowd.
“Last year when they organised their shows, Shatta Wale’s show was free but not as Stonebwoy’s. Stonebwoy was later teasing that his show wasn’t free, but people turned up,” he stated.
Clemento Suarez shared that the two musicians appear to enjoy the attention and publicity that come with their rivalry.
“So basically, they really enjoy the attention and everything,” he added.
